I describe a changing focus for this website to help people who feel different in some way, who are sometimes too nice for their own good, who are attracted to same-sex persons, who love God and the Bible or who know someone like this they would like to understand better.

My Prayer

This is my prayer ..

I pray you'll be my eyes

and watch me where I go

and help me to be wise

in times when I don't know.

This will be my prayer

as I go my way,

lead me to a place,

guide me with your grace,

to a place where we'll be safe.

I pray we'll find your light

and hold it in our hearts ...

---original lyrics by David Foster .. slightly adapted by Lydia

.. I pray you will find a place not only here,

but deep inside, perhaps through writing,

where you will feel safe.

                    ---Lydia

To listen to as you read ..

             WELCOME TO LYDIA'S WRITING LIFE

I am making this website for you ..

  • .. if you want to learn one version of what it's like to live the writing life.

  • .. if you want the safety of writing to process your thoughts and feelings. Maybe you want to keep your writing to yourself or maybe you need to write about what's going on with you to a kind, supportive, nonjudgmental person. For the first 25 readers who contact me by e-mail, I will count you as charter family in the Lydia's Writing Life Community and I will personally e-mail you back. In these posts, I will share with you some of the benefits I have learned of keeping a private journal.

  • .. if you sometimes feel different and want to know you're not alone, even if your difference is not the same as my differentness. -- You will read stories about feeling different and how I and others have learned to be okay about our differentness.

  • .. if you don't want to be judged or given a lot of advice --- you just want to be understood and heard (or read) by a supportive and caring person.

  • .. if you want to know "that way" you feel is okay as a feeling. I'm writing a book about how I got okay about being "that way". (Thirty years ago many people were afraid to say my "that way" difference. For a long time, I didn't even know a word for how I felt.) In my book, my main "that way" feeling was being gay or lesbian or homosexual. These days I don't need a label. You could just say I'm attracted to a woman like the majority of women are attracted to a man. I will be sharing resources that helped me get okay about being "that way". I will also share how I resolved the contrast between how my church background seemed to think God felt about my difference and how God* really feels. (To accept my whole self, I really needed to know I wouldn't have to give up my treasured relationship with God*. God* got me through my childhood and I wasn't about to give up that relationship.)

In short, I made this website to help us all know we are all

in this thing called physical life together, that we are not alone;

not in our stuggles nor in our rejoicings. And I made this so I can

share with you through my personal safe place, my writing.

God bless us every one.

*I grew up with using the word "God" but please use whatever word

for "Higher Power" puts you at ease. I'm learning God doesn't care

what you call him or her .. just so you call him or her.

Lydia writes about differences and how they enhance the beauty of our world while not needing to let them separate us from each other. In this first part, Lydia shares her own differences and asks the reader to think about ways they have felt or now feel different. She invites the reader to share their thoughts about differences with her in the comments or through an e-mail to lydiaswirintlife@aol.com

Lydia reminds readers there are many everyday tasks a writer has to deal with. Again she emphasizes the importance of writing Morning Pages as an anchoring and centering island in a writer's life. It provides "me" time in a day that can get very "other" oriented at times.

Different is hard and lonely sometimes. It is also the way we make our unique contribution to the world around us. If we learn to honor our differences and find support from others like us, we can become the best we can be and find fulfillment in life. “Different” Artist, Cass Elliot Composer, Charles Fox Lyricist, Norman Gimbel

Add Your Name To Lydia's Writing Life E-Mail List

Before adding products and services at a price to this website to help support my work, I will be making improvements on the website to help people who come here to feel safe and supported. If you would like to help me in my efforts, especially now through June 2021, there is a Donate button below to facilitate your wish to become a part of this project.

Beginning in July of 2021 I will be offering services and products for pay. Services will be on a sliding fee scale so I can help those who are stuggling and need a hand up. I am not a licensed counselor. I will be making myself available to listen and be supportive in a nonjudgmental way. I will also offer a support system through e-mail exchages and a chat room .. all things I need to develop between now and June 2021. Any support you feel led to offer will be greatly appreciated.

Already I want to express my appreciation to Andy Barrows of Webify in Johnstown, PA, who has gone above and beyond in helping with website development and design. I would highly recommend his company for your website development and design needs.

Also thanks to Tammi Gilbert in California who has given her talents to website testing to improve my connections with the community I hope to serve.

I am so grateful too for your thoughts and prayers,

   With love,

   Lydia
